Youth encouraged to move forward

Month long youth leadership and personality programme concludes

A month long programme on “Youth leadership and personality development” under the scheme of National Programme for Youth and Adolescent Development (NPYAD) MOYAS, Government of India organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kohima concluded here today.  

Started on July 20, 28 youth have successfully completed the course. Gracing the valedictory function as the guest of honour, Wilfred, (IAS) Asst. Commissioner, Kohima, called upon the youth to be confident in taking oneself forward.  

He stated that Governments, both Centre and States have taken lot of initiatives in reaching to the youth with financial packages for micro credit facilities to enable youth to take up entrepreneurship. He asked the youth to upgrade their skills before anyone take up any ventures.

He also assured to help the youth in all possible ways in realizing their dreams through micro credit schemes to start entrepreneurship.  

NYKS State Director, Jackie Ruivah cited the success stories of Mizoram where youth have taken coffee and sandal wood plantations in big ways to boost the rural economy.  

Earlier, K. T. Thomas, Additional Director, Department of Tourism encouraged the youth to be vibrant and innovative in taking up ventures in life.  

He encouraged the youth to think out of the box in taking up new enterprises through hard work and dedication.  

The 30 day long programme covered historical perspective of Indian youth with special reference to North Eastern youth, problem analysis, leadership, function of a leader, youth leader and community development, life skill, self awareness, empathy building skill, decision lacking skill, problem solving skill, creative thinking and critical thinking skill, coping with stress and emotion skill, stress management skill, effective communication skill, interpersonal relationship skill, confliction resolution skill, how to face interview, peace building, factors affecting our personality, guidelines for good personality, entrepreneurship, integrated farming system for livelihood security, prospect of horticulture, startup village entrepreneur programme, National Rural livelihood Mission, skills in building sustainable economy, cooperative movement in Nagaland, Agri-entrepreneurship at producing level, agri- entrepreneurship at marketing level, credit facilities for rural youth, fruit preservation, credit facilities with NABARD, prospect of coffee plantation etc.

Manager and John Makhabo, DYC, NYK.  

The programme also witnessed field visits to Komul Dairy Farm, Japfu Mineral Water Plant, Piggery Farm, Poultry Farm, Central Institute of Horticulture, State Horticulture Nursery (Green Park), Mushroom Development Center, Green Park, Tatami Integrated Farm and Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center.  

The field exposures to the trainees provided unique opportunities for the participants to engage in learning beyond the classroom both theory and practical.The participants were motivated to take up viable projects for their livelihoods.
