Youth leadership training programme held in Tuensang

Kohima, January 28 (MExN): A youth leadership and community development training programme was conducted at SIRD, Tuensang from January 20 to 22 last by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Tuensang. The training programme was attended by 43 youth.


Chamcham, World Bank outreach worker and John Makhabo, DYC NYK were the resource persons of the training programme.


The DYC highlighted the aims and objectives of the youth leadership and community development programme. He said the training programme was conducted with a view to help young people translate knowledge, develop appropriate attitudes and inculcate values that would help them acquire the ability to effective leader imbibed with proper leadership qualities and develop good personality.


He talked on leadership, duties and responsibilities of leader, characteristics of a leader, qualities and function of leaders. He said that a leader is to serve, to envision and to bring hope to the people, to tell the truth, to bring things to accountable, to care for people’s needs, to share resources to the people, to rise new Role Models in the community, and to bring stability to matters that affect the common mass.


He stated that there are so many leaders in our society but many lack effective leadership qualities. The leaders should be the one who shared the message and walk the talk, as action speak louder than words. The footprint of a leader left behind is where one can judge the quality of his or her leadership. So be the change you want to see the betterment of the society. Speaking on qualities and function of a leader where he highlighted the characteristics of effective leaders. One should be able to communicate effectively, takes initiatives, be resourceful, assumes full responsibilities with creative and critical thinking skills. He also stressed on the need to build personality development where one can develop self-confidence, self esteem and positive attitude towards life.  He pointed out that anyone who wants to shine in life need to imbibe leadership qualities for successful career. All great leaders of the world were good leaders as they possessed leadership skills.


Chamcham took session on effective communication skills and inter-person relationship. He said that communications are the set of skills that enables a person to convey information so that it is received and understood.


Communication is sharing of ideas, opinions, feelings, and understandings. It is an important aspect in everyday life for all of us. He called upon the youth to be a leader who is effective in communication as one has to be a good teacher working with the community. While speaking on inter personal relationship he also called upon the youth to keep healthy relationship with the people at home and other persons whom they socialized. Healthy relationship with peer will drive away stress and negative emotion, he said. Chamcham also took a session on problems solving skills and how to plan for youth projects and programme. 


The participants were taught how to making decision making skills going through the various choices and keeping priority of gravity of issues.
