Chetheba, April 15 (MExN): A seven-day basic blacksmith training programme under the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship concluded at Chetheba Town in Phek district on Wednesday, with a focus on enhancing livelihood opportunities for rural youth.
The training, conducted by Zynorique Initiatives Society (ZIS) under the “Providing Access to Core Employability Skills (PACES)” initiative, saw participation from 25 candidates and comprised 50 hours of intensive sessions.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Kehuye Keyho said the skills acquired would be applied practically and encouraged participants to continue practising to sustain livelihoods. Bedulhu Nienu described the initiative as a step towards promoting self-employment and expressed hope that it would benefit participants in the long term.
Addressing the gathering, Setsoyi Keyho, Chairman, Chetheba Town Welfare Committee, termed the training timely and essential for youth development, and expressed confidence in its positive outcomes. He urged trainees to remain committed to the trade, stressing the importance of dedication, hard work, and consistency in achieving financial stability.
NPF 18th AC General Secretary, Thepukrayi Nienu, noted that this was the first such training programme in Chetheba and appreciated the efforts of the training partner. He expressed hope that similar initiatives would be introduced in the future to support sustainable livelihoods.
The programme aims to enhance job readiness and income generation by equipping participants with practical, demand-driven skills for self-employment.
The event was chaired by Ruvezo Nienu, while the benediction was pronounced by Thenuzhoyi Swuro, Deacon, CRC Thenyizu. Toolkits and certificates were distributed to all trainees upon completion of the programme.
