
Zunheboto, February 11 (MExN): A six-day STRY (Skill Training of Rural Youth) programme on “Mushroom Production Techniques” was held in Satakha Old under Satakha Block of Zunheboto district from February 5-10.
A total of 15 youth were trained and awarded certificates at the training organised by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Zunheboto in association with State Agricultural Management Extension & Training Institute (SAMETI) Medziphema and MANAGE Hyderabad.
During the inaugural session, Vikaho Chophi, Deputy Project Director (ATMA) highlighted that the training was aimed at imparting skill-based training in compliance with National Policy On Skill Development & Entrepreneurship-2015 in agriculture & allied areas for creation of skilled human resources, generate entrepreneurs and employment of rural youths.
One of resource persons of the training Tovi V Jimomi, Assistant Technology Manager, Satakha Block covered various aspects of subject matter including concepts, types, uses, mushroom cultivation; opportunities and constraints, acquaintance with edible, non edible, medicinal and poisonous mushrooms, and Establishment of commercial mushroom production units.
Another resource person and Assistant Technology Manager, Satakha Block Vialo Sumi also on dwelt on importance of mushroom cultivation, mushroom cultivation as an agribusiness activity; quality attributes, storage and transport of mushroom spawn; acquaintance with mushroom contamination; and processing and preservation and value addition of mushroom.
A practical hands-on demonstration on oyster mushroom was also performed by the participants.
In the valedictory session, L Nunsang Jamir, Project Director (ATMA) and District Agricultural Officer, Zunheboto encouraged the youths to utilise the opportunity to develop their skills and generate income out of it, stated a press release from the Project Director ATMA Zunheboto.
