Youths, farmers receive training on vermi-composting, smoke-free drying

Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): A one day hands-on training on ‘Vermi-composting and Smoke-free drying of Naga King Chilli’ was organized by STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema campus, Nagaland centre on September 28 at the technology demonstration unit.

The programme was conducted under the initiative of Prof Akali Sema, Dean SASRD and Project In-charge, STINER-TFC. With the notion of ‘creating entrepreneurial mindset and encouraging skill development’ being the major mandate of the centre, the hands-on training programme was aimed at sensitizing the locals on various revenue generating activities, according to a press release from SASRD on Friday. While addressing the concept of the training, Prof Akali Sema emphasized the importance of developing new skills and turning them into self-sustaining businesses and how the centre can help in bringing in relevant technologies for the benefit of the people, it added.

The first session was on smoke free drying of Naga King Chilli which was presented by Rokosieno Zao, Project Assistant, STINER-TFC, where she encouraged the participants to identify the available resources in the region like the king chilli and to convert it into income generating avenue.

The second session was presented by Bikram Ghimere, Project Assistant, STINER-TFC, on the importance and scope of vermi-composting which is a conversion of ‘waste to wealth’ and a low cost technology ensuring a good economic return. The technical sessions were followed by a hands-on demonstration. 

A total of 18 participants which comprised of house wives, SHGs, PhD scholars, students and unemployed youths attended the training programme which was chaired by Dr Sentirenla Changkiri, Project Assistant, STINER-TFC, the release stated.
