The Zapami Welfare Society Kohima (ZWSK) on Tuesday celebrated its 25th Anniversary at Para Medical Colony, Kohima with Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu as the special guest. Minister Kronu also inaugurated the ZWSK building to commemorate the anniversary.

Speaking on the occasion, Kronu lauded the Zapami citizens for their diligence, hard work and sincere outlook, thereby joining the path success and prosperity in the different fields. He also commended the Zapami community for upholding the rich culture and traditions by setting up a museum at Zapami village.

Zapami village under Phek district is one of the recipients of Nirmal Gram Puruskar (NGP) in 2009, in recognition of good sanitary practices.

Kronu asserted that Zapami village has potential to become an important tourist destination. In this, he urged upon the community to devise proper mechanisms to boost inflow of tourists.

Highlighting the scope of agricultural activities in Nagaland, Kronu further urged the community to pursue the same with seriousness to improve the rural economy.

He said that a time has come to ‘Go Back to the land,’ while underscoring that the state has little scope to compete with others in the industry sector at the moment. However, with favourable climatic conditions and fertile soil, the state can compete with others in agricultural sector, he added.

He also assured the farming community that market linkages will be taken care by the government wherever possible.
Presently, the ZWSK has 220 members with 58 households. Its enrolment includes 42 government servants with 8 gazetted officers, 22 post graduates and 35 graduates.

Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) President Mikha Kenye and Zapami Village Council chairperson Zewekha Wetsah also spoke during the programme which was led by Neisa Wetsah. Welcome address was delivered by ZWSK chairman Lhiwekulo Kenye.

During the programme, ZWSK Building Committee convenor Er Lhiwepe Khutso and ZWSK general secretary Wepre Wetsah presented their respective reports and vote of thanks was proposed by ZSWK vice chairperson David Khutso.

Earlier, Kelhikha Kenye led the monolith unveiling function while Zapami Baptist Church pastor Chikhro Khutso pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
