Kohima, November 8 (MExN): Nagaland's Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, today stressed the need for the Government of India to align the release of funds with the state's climatic conditions, particularly for crucial sectors like agriculture-allied and infrastructure.
Addressing the State Level-Consultative Meeting on the NEC Vision Plan 2047 held in Kohima, he pointed out that in a state like Nagaland, rainfall starts from March and lasts until the end of October.
Thus, for the successful implementation of projects, this climate condition should be taken into account, he said.
The sanction and release of funds for the Agri-Allied sector should be in the months of October-November so that work can be in full swing by March-April, he added.
Likewise, sanctions for the road sector and other infrastructural developments should be accorded in the months of July-August, noted Zeliang, who is also the Minister in charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highways.
This way, after all formalities, the working season can start by October-November, providing a good 5-6 months for work, he maintained.
However, Zeliang pointed out that such timelines are not taken into account by various Ministries, and timely implementation becomes a problem on the ground.
Accordingly, he urged the North Eastern Council (NEC) officials present at the meeting to convey such realities to the concerned Union Ministries and ensure that it is reflected also in the draft Vision Document 2047.
