Zeliangrong Youth Front urges for retrospection

Imphal, April 15 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Front has urged to all responsible people including functionaries of Zeme Naga Council (ZNC), the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) and the Rongmei Naga Council (RNC) to seriously ponder over the collective future of Zeliangrong people.   ZYF in a statement on Sunday termed it a “matter of grave concern” to see different opinions on the issue arguing, “There is no gain for Zeliangrong people when the collective future is spoiled.”   Stating that the division of opinions among the Zeliangrong family was because of some people trying to achieve their own vested interest, the Youth Front alleged that these people have floated different types of organizations based on dialectic variation groups so as to assert themselves as separate people “in complete deviation from the truth.”   “The functionaries of these organizations who are equipped with distorted history have now come out in the open to mislead the general public, spreading false propaganda and injecting venomous words in order to hurt and stir up the sentiments of the common people,” the ZYF stated.   It added that the distortion of the common history of the Zeliangrong people has now created lots of confusion and insisted that the negative consequences arising from the issue should be the responsibility of those who orchestrated the situation.   The ZYF also blamed the Govt. of India of seeking to reduce the Zeliangrong people to a minority in the different States of the Indian Union and also creating more divisions by according different, distinct and separate tribes to members of the same family. GoI is fully aware that “it is paradoxical to the anthropological background which is the basis to determine the origin and race of the people,” the ZYF maintained.   In this regard, the ZYF argued that the decision of the NSCN (IM) to process for recognition of three distinct and separate tribes as Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei is nothing but endorsement to Govt. of India’s divisive policy.   As such, the ZYF maintained that it will be unwise on the part of the Zeliangrong people to praise or celebrate “when your family is going to break into pieces.”
