Zeliangrongs denounce armed conflict

Dimapur, March 11(MExN): Zeliangrong organizations today denounced the “present conflict between NSCN (IM) and Zeliangrong United Front” and has demanded end to the violence. The organizations also strongly demanded that the voice of the people should not be suppressed.
The Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Mipui Organization and Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Nagaland held an emergency meeting at Jalukie town hall on March 7. A joint statement from the organizations was received here today.
“The house condemns the present conflict between NSCN (IM) and Zeliangrong United Front at Khoupom areas Tamenglong district Manipur, where one precious life of ZUF was lost in the incident,” the joint statement said.
The Zeliangrong organizations said they are not in favor of any particular group but against the bloodshed violence in any part of Zeliangrong, areas ‘be it at Manipur, Assam or Nagaland.’
“And as the Nagas in general are in the process of reconciliation, bloodshed should be stop at any cost. It is unfortunate to note that though differences among the Naga national workers sprung up, no such action was taken so far, as such enough time should also be given to the Zeliangrong civil body to negotiate and bring out the differences to understanding through peaceful means before taking such drastic action,” the statement said.
The organizations also called ‘unfortunate’ that “some national workers restraint the Zeliangrong civil body” from taking out a peaceful rally at Tamenglong. The voice of the people should not be suppressed when peace is in need of an hour, the organizations said.
“Therefore the ZB, ZMO and ZSU Nagaland appeal all the faction or group to restrain from violence.”
