Zeme Council express concern over illegal land encroachment

DIMAPUR, JUNE 27 (MExN): The Zeme Council (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has expressed concern over the large scale illegal encroachment and numerous illegal villages which have been set up without the permission of the land owners.

The Zeme Council has also tabled their grievances to the apex Zeliangrong body in Nagaland, Zeliangrong Baudi (Hoho), for they have all valid proof and documents proving their legitimacy of ownership. Thus, stated Ngauputlak, President Zeme Council (AMN) in a release, “any village inside the Zeliangrong territory which has been set up without the consent of the actual land owners is illegal” and further called upon the administration to take strict measures as per the valid documents i.e. agreements, treaties and early maps both by the British and the Indian Government.

“It is also a fact (with proof) that the people of Mungleumukh have been paying land tax (Rampua) to Jalukie thus they were allowed to settle there and use the land for cultivation” stated Ngauputlak but “with the advent of a certain tribe forcibly settling at Mungleumukh area it is unfortunate that this certain tribe has been taking advantage of the Zeliangrong hospitality and causing chaos and havoc and also disturbing other villages in Jalukie area” he added.

The council has further appealed to the illegal encroachers to abstain from such activities for, “if such unwanted and illegal activities continue a time will come where they have to be evacuated by hook or by crook’ further warned the council.

Meanwhile, the Zeme Council (AMN) has also condemned the cowardly attack on Jalukie Zangdi, where two houses were razed to the ground and damaging numerous articles.
