Haflong, May 28 (PTI): At least eight houses in Assam’s Zeme Naga village were set ablaze by unidentified assailants on Thursday in central Assam’s troubled North Cachar Hills district hours after a high-level Union Home Ministry team visited the area. The thatch houses in interior Mabao village, under Haflong police station, were torched early Thursday morning, official sources said. The attack comes hours after a high-level central team headed by Union Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary for North East Navin Verma visited the district and held meetings with state government officials to review the prevailing law and order situation there. Thousands of people had been rendered homeless due to the turf war between ethnic communities in the district, sources said.
