Zhadima village organisation demands to remove AR outpost

Kohima, November 3 (MExN): The Zhadima Village Youth and Sports Organisation have condemned the “raid” by First Assam Rifles in the residence of Roko Angami at wee hours on October 29 “without any search warrant from the legal authority.”

Following the incident, the Zhadima Village Youth Organisation has demanded that “the Assam Rifles outpost at Zhadima village should be removed at the earliest as it no longer serve its purpose or provide security to the people.”

The organisation in its condemnation note stated that “The land inhabited by the Assam Rifles at Zhadima village is not an acquisition property of the Assam Rifles; therefore, the organisation demands for the area be cleared at the earliest as the villagers intend to use it for a more productive development.”

The organisation alleged that the paramilitary force “forcibly entered the house breaking door locks, broke cupboard and safe locker in the absence of the house owner. The armed force on finding nothing of suspicion in the house of Roko Angami turned the whole place upside down out of discomfiture.”

“This detestable act of the Assam Rifles has tarnished the good image and reputation of Roko Angami and deeply hurt the sentiments of the public.” It stated.

It added that “If the Assam Rifles happened to act on any devised information provided by some unscrupulous informant than the Zhadima Village Youth Organisation demands the responsible individual to be brought to light for justice. Enough of innocent Nagas have been tormented and killed by the Indian Armed Force because of such false information by some treacherous spies.”

It also demanded the Assam Rifles to “tender public apology for the character assassination of a public leader, disrupting public peace and harmony, causing public distress and panic.”

Angami Students’ Union: The Angami Students' Union (ASU) has out rightly condemned “the action perpetrated which not only shocked and traumatized Roko Angami and families but the whole Sagas, at this crucial time of global pandemic.”

The ASU in a press release said it is evident that the “Assam Rifles has clearly sent the message to abruptly disturb the peace and tranquility in Naga Homeland and expose their intention of exercising the draconian laws. The Union wonders, how will the common citizen safety exist, if a reputed sports personality and a renowned leader like Roko Angami is not spared and safe from the brutality of the Armed Forces.”

Further, it stated that the Union will not tolerate nor remain silent unless the authorities of the 1st Assam Rifles “publicly apologize and explicitly declare their wrongdoings immediately.”
