ZLSU apprehensive over unbridled inflow of drugs into Peren

Urges law enforcement agencies to act

Peren, January 28 (MExN): The Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) today expressed concern over what it termed as ‘unbridled inflow of drugs from within and outside the state’ into Peren district and urged the law enforcement agencies to swiftly act against such activities.

‘The ZLSU is extremely distraught about this anti-social element that may bloom further if the concerned department does not take appropriate measures to curb this plaque,’ stated the union in a press release.

According to the union, while there a positive development taking place in the improvement of interstate road connectivity between Nagaland and Manipur via Peren district, a negative effect looming also is the increasing rate of illicit use of drugs and drug trafficking.

“It has come to our knowledge that there is widespread smuggling of drugs in the district due to the unbridled inflow of drugs from within and outside the state,” it added.  The ZLSU further expressed apprehension that if the trend continues, it would ruin students, community and youths, and ultimately damage the community.

Accordingly, the union requested the law enforcement agencies to swiftly act on it by deploying police personnel and other agencies at every entry and exit point.  The union also assured cooperation with law enforcement agencies to stop the menace.

The ZLSU further cautioned the drug peddlers/smugglers and users that the union will impose punitive actions against the perpetrators, if caught.
