ZLSU highlights teacher shortage in Peren district

Peren, April 30 (MExN): The Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZLSU), has raised serious concerns over acute teacher shortages in government-run schools across Peren District, following a 17-day village visitation (April 8-25, 2025).

ZLSU President Adv Roland Iranggaung and General Secretary Keyinreulu in a press release highlighted that the crisis has worsened due to the suspension of rationalization orders, leaving affected teachers in limbo, neither returning to original postings nor joining new assignments. Their absence remains unexplained, further crippling education delivery.

Despite the Department of School Education halting rationalization in February 2025, no corrective measures have been taken, jeopardizing students’ right to quality education, the union stated.

The ZLSU has demanded immediate action for the displaced teachers to immediately resume duties at their original postings. The union warns of accountability measures should any teacher fail to comply before new orders are issued. It also demanded the department to issue revised rationalization orders that reflects on-the-ground realities and prioritizes student welfare

The ZLSU also urged parents, village councils and community leaders to monitor teacher attendance and report irregularities, emphasising collective responsibility. During their visit, union representatives engaged over 500 stakeholders, addressing conservation and land protection, responsible RTI use and strengthening community unity.
