DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 29 (MExN): The Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZLSU) extended its warmest greetings to the Zeliang community on the occasion of the Chaga-Gadi and Langsimngi festival which is one of the most significant and premier festivals of the Zeliang tribe. “This festival is celebrated as a reminder of our rich cultural heritage and to preserve it. Chaga Gadi in Liangmai means blessed festival. It is celebrated to give thanks to the almighty God for his bountiful blessings upon his people with rich harvest and good health, and at the same time to show respect and honor to the womenfolk for their tremendous contributions in sustaining the family. Langsimngi festival is celebrated by the Zeme which signifies the rekindling of family relationships between parents and their married daughters, siblings, nieces, and the whole community,” a press release from the ZLSU stated.
Though traditionally, the date of the celebration often differed from village to village, today it is celebrated on October 30 and 31 every year to bring a sense of oneness amongst the varied villages while celebrating this joyous festival.
To mark this festival of love, peace, forgiveness, joy, and immense blessings, the ZLSU reminded all the established educational institutions and government offices under Peren district to remain closed on October 30 and 31 as it has been officially declared as a ‘‘restricted holiday’’ by the Government of Nagaland. The union further appealed to the state government and private enterprises to grant casual leave to Zeliang employees serving under various government departments and private enterprises in the state on these particular days. “May this auspicious festival bring more love, peace, joy, unity, and prosperity to the Zeliang community in particular and to the Nagas in general,” the union hoped.
