Exciting contests and dominant performances marked the opening rounds of the Zone-IV Pre-Subroto International Football Tournament 2026 being held at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground in Tuensang district.
The tournament, organised by the Department of District Youth Resources & Sports in collaboration with the Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA), has drawn participation from schools across Tuensang, Noklak, Shamator and Mon districts.
Among the standout teams in the boys’ category, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Hakushang announced themselves as strong contenders with a commanding 12-0 victory over Loyem Memorial School in the opening match of the tournament. However, Hakushang were later held to a 1-1 draw by PM Shri GHSS Thangjam Tuensang in a closely contested encounter.
Langsa Hill Higher Secondary School from Mon district also impressed, defeating GHSS Shamator 2-0 to secure a place in the semifinals.
In the girls’ category, GHSS Noklak emerged as the dominant side after registering back-to-back victories. The Noklak girls defeated GHSS Hakushang 3-0 before overpowering Loyem Memorial School 4-0, sealing the top position in their group and booking their place in the next stage.
Meanwhile, PM Shri GHSS Thangjam Tuensang were awarded a walkover after Loyem Memorial School failed to turn up for their scheduled boys’ fixture.
The boys’ semifinals, scheduled for Wednesday, will feature Langsa Hill Hr. Sec. School, Mon against PM Shri GHSS Thangjam Tuensang in the first semifinal, while GHSS Hakushang will face GHSS Shamator in the second semifinal.
Tournament organizers said the competition aims to promote grassroots football and identify talented young players for higher-level competitions under the Subroto Cup structure.
