Newmai News Network AIZAWL | NOVEMBER 12 Zoramthanga, president of the Mizo National Front (MNF) has denied the “secret pact between the MNF and BJP” allegation. The Congress and other political parties have been accusing the MNF of having “secret pact” with the BJP in connection with the upcoming assembly polls. Addressing a meeting at the MNF office here on Monday, the former Mizoram chief minister said that the Congress and other political parties were “spreading false propaganda because they are jealous of the MNF as we will win the upcoming assembly polls”. Mizoram will go to polls on November 28 and results will be announced on December 11. Zoramthanga said that his party has fielded 40 seats and the BJP has fielded 39 candidates for the assembly polls to the 40-member legislative assembly. “This shows that the BJP and the MNF have no link”, Zoramthanga pointed out. He also said that his party does not need to work with either the BJP or other political parties “because we will win the simple majority in the polls”. The former rebel leader then alleged that the Congress has been working with the BJP. “Even though the Congress president and chief minister Lal Thanhawla had said that they had withdrawn from the BJP led Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), the Congress is still working with the BJP in the council,” he alleged. The CADC government was run by the United Legislature Party (ULP) of the BJP-Congress combine. The Congress claimed that it had withdrawn from the ULP on October 29 due to the activities of the incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the CADC and leader of BJP Legislature Party Shanti Jiban Chakma, which went against the interest of the party and the people. Zoramthanga said that as the Congress is deserted by its senior leaders and workers, the MNF is fortunate to recruit thousands of new voters. Zoramthanga then reiterated that the MNF would “impose total prohibition” in the state after it comes to power. The MNF leader also said that his government would re-instate the old school timing as students and parents alike were badly affected by the new school timing introduced by the Congress government. He added that his government would set up centres for drug addicts, review life time vehicle tax, would give special concern to government employees and work for the augmentation of state’s economy through its Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP).
