ZRSU asks DoHE to monitor truancy and proxy teaching

Zunheboto, September 27 (MExN): The Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) on Tuesday drew attention to reports of truancy among some teachers in the Zunheboto Government College (ZGC) and appealed to all the teachers to be sincere and regular in attending their duties. “In this regard, the union also implore upon the Department of Higher Education to adopt strict mechanism to check and monitor the irregular teachers and the practice of proxy teaching,” it said in a press release issued by President Gihuka K Zhimo.  The ZRSU also informed that the Department of Higher Education has given ‘positive assurance’ to appoint the required number of teachers at the ZGC. Stating this in a press release issued by, the ZRSU said it had received the message through the Principal, ZGC, and as such, it would “consider relaxation of the Ultimatum given to the department.” Mention may be made that the ZRSU on September 13 had submitted a representation to the department of Higher education giving it 15-days to appoint 21 teachers to address shortage in the lone Government College of the district. On Tuesday, while acknowledging the prompt response and action taken by the department, it expressed hope that the concerned department would fulfil its assurance at the earliest.
