DISHA Zunheboto District conducted the annual Red Run on July 22 as part of a statewide campaign to raise awareness on HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
The run was flagged off by Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) Deputy Chairperson Vihoto Zhimo in the presence of officials and participants.
Addressing the gathering, Zhimo acknowledged the medical personnel, organisers and participants for their involvement in the initiative. He also highlighted the role of such initiatives by the medical fraternity in contributing to the development of Naga society.
Speaking on the occasion, DISHA Zunheboto District Programme Officer Hokishe Chophy said the Red Run was being organised across Nagaland as an awareness campaign on HIV and STI prevention.
He said the initiative primarily targets young people between the ages of 17 and 25 and seeks to encourage them to become ambassadors of awareness in their respective communities.
Chophy urged the participants to spread awareness on HIV and STIs and contribute towards building informed and healthier communities. He added that the annual Red Run provides a platform to promote responsible health behaviour, reduce stigma associated with HIV and STIs, encourage voluntary testing and promote safe practices.
A total of 29 participants competed in the run. In the men's category, Gihuka Awomi secured first position, followed by Ikivi Aye in second and Ahuka in third.
In the women's category, Sundaytoli emerged as the winner, while Liki and Lipavi Sumi secured second and third positions, respectively.
