The 50th Anniversary celebration of Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur which started in the beginning of the year culminated this evening with a grand finale at the CHSS Campus. The celebrations began with a marathon race and dedicatory prayer in January which was followed by Cleanliness Drive, Inter-School Quiz competition, Inter-School Basketball Competition, Inter- School Cultural Dance competition and several other activities.

Christian Higher Secondary School is centrally situated in Dimapur Town at Nyamo Lotha Road. The school was founded in 1957 and was managed by both public and private enterprises till 1966. Since January 1967 the school has been running under the auspices of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the highest Baptist Church organization in Nagaland. The school is a co-educational institute with classes from A to 12.

The Anniversary celebration was chaired by Renbeni Kithan. The occasion was indeed a special moment as faculty and students of CHSS, both past and present, alumni, parents and well wishers took the opportunity to reminisce, acknowledge, and look into the future of this educational institution.

In his welcome address, S. Moatemsu Walling, Principal, CHSS first of all remembered in gratitude and paid rich tribute to all the teachers, and staffs whose tireless efforts has brought this institution thus far. He stated, “This evening, as we gather to celebrate our achievements, progress and our journey so far, this 50th Anniversary celebration presents us with an opportunity for retrospection, and also a time to contemplate the future of our institution and society. How will it be, what will it be?”

To this, he replied, “But I believe the answer is right in front of us, sitting amidst us. They are our dear students. They will determine how the future will be. And we the teachers, the parents and the guardians have a role in moulding and shaping what the future will be.”

“Today on our 50th year, we stand on our achievements of the past two generations of teachers and students. This evening the responsibility passes onto us- to take CHSS to greater heights. Let it be such that 25 years from now, looking back, we all will be proud of our association with this school,” he stated.

Temjen Toy, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, who was the chief guest for the occasion acknowledged that so many successful men and women have passed through the portals of CHSS. He said, “It is indeed a matter of great pride that the school has produced successful citizens who are assets to out society. When we judge a school, what do we look at? Normally across the country we look at results. On that count, it is a matter of great joy again that the school has done exceedingly well so far as results and the pass percentages are concerned.”

However, he also challenged, “Is it only that? All over the States especially Nagaland, the time has come to prioritize between school buildings and building schools. We need to prepare for the future as the future is staring at us and how well prepared are we? We need to go beyond text books and exams, and here lies the challenge for the management of any school because beyond textbooks, it is the inherent duty of the school to build its students into good human beings first and foremost and then successful human beings.”

He felt that we really need to look into the future and face it as it comes. So much is changing in the world and the time has come where we have to go beyond. He quoted Alvin Toffle, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”

He also posed a challenge to the students, the future beacons. He said, “Our society is filled with negativity and everywhere we look around is filled with criticisms. There is a lot of blame being passed on from one to another. We need to change ourselves and be good human beings first. There are things wrong in society but just criticizing and being negative won’t change the world. Let us take this as a challenge. Let us develop positivity in our lives and look ahead and I’m sure the world, the future will be ours.

“So much has gone into the yearlong activities organized by CHSS, and seeing the talent on stage gives us hope for the future,” he concluded.

Rev. Dr.N. Tzudir, Chairman, School Managing Board also officially released the Souvenir Magazine. Later, the School Choir was also launched. Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho, General Secretary, NBCC also exhorted the gathering followed by acknowledgement by Gekhotso Haralu, Convenor, Planning Committee.

This was followed by an evening of musical extravaganza which included songs from the movies & musicals, Bollywood Remix, Bohemian Rhapsody and live band performances.
