Action plans for meat shops in Kohima Town

Kohima, July 15 (MExN): In order to streamline the meat market in Kohima, the Kohima Municipal Council and Butchers’ Union Kohima Town after series of meetings have brought out some action plans to improve the meat business in the capital city Kohima. A notification issued by KMC Administrator, Kovi Meyase has mentioned that the plans are to be complied with strictly by all concerned within the timeframe indicated below.  

• All beef/pork shops are directed to use only digital machine. • All the beef/pork employees shall obtain medical fitness certificate from the concerned medical department. • All butchers shops shall have paneled wall and floor for better hygiene and sanitation.

• For issuing of new Trade License of butcher shop there should be recommendation from Butchers’ Union Kohima Town.

• An ‘Undertaking’ will be executed with the office by the license holder before obtaining the Trade license for meat.

• Carry bags of 40 microns and above only shall be used by all the shops.

• The rate of pork within KMC jurisdiction is fixed at Rs. 180 per kg of all cuts for regular pork butcher shops, Rs.220 per kg of all cuts for improved pork butcher shops

• There shall be no separate rates for ‘local pork’ and non-local pork • As earlier notified, the open sale of meat items on footpath, vehicle etc is strictly prohibited.

• The defaulters shall be penalized by seizure of meat/ closure of shops.

• The action on the defaulters will be enforced on those who do not comply with the order within one month time from the date of issue of this notification.  

(Improved pork butcher shops: Those shops which are with marble/tiled floors, walls and countertops, cold storage, glass enclosures etc and offer meat cuts according to customers’ choice. Regular pork butcher shops: Those shops which are not properly constructed and yet to improve on the basic facilities as indicated above)
