
Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): A two day capacity building programme on implementation of integrated catchment area treatment plan was graced by Pukhayi Sumi, Parliamentary Secretary, Soil & Water Conservation at the conference hall of the Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation, Kohima.
According to a press release, the chief guest also released the Soil and Water Conservation Management and GIS Application manual published by the Department. In his address, Sumi appealed to the departmental officers and field staff to work with a vision and with all sincerity and also be accountable for the responsibilities assigned to them. He encouraged the participants to recommit themselves to their duties and contribute to the rebuilding of our society in their own capacity.
The Director of Soil & Water Conservation, Peter K. Rengma in his speech, apprised the trainees on the purpose of the training and also dwelt on the importance of adopting corrective measures to reduce sediment load and increase the sustainability of the catchment area.
The keynote address was delivered by Khekiho Shohe, SCO (Forest), who stressed on the importance of a comprehensive plan for judicious management of natural resources, for controlling silt erosion and minimizing the sediment to a minimum level.
Project Approaches and Implementation was dealt by Vilehu Nguzhu, Jt. Director while T. Mar presented on Soil Testing and Mapping and importance of Soil Health Cards.
Hands on exercise on GPS and GIS application were carried out at the directorate compound.
Over 60 technical field staff from four districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Phek and Zunheboto registered for the two days training.
