In pursuance with the decision of Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) to maintain peace and tranquility within the Chakhesang area and to ensure smooth conduct of electioneering processes, the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) has set up several check gates within its jurisdiction to check the inflow of liquors into Phek district. A volunteer in one of the check gates along the stretch of Zuketsa-Pfutsero road told media persons that the check gate operates 24x7 and will continue till the day of the poll, i.e., February 27.

CMA organized mothers in groups to set up check gates in their respective areas and villages to check the inflow of liquors. CMA has been entrusted to check and confiscate or seize any alcohol or intoxicating items on spot if found in possession or transporting within the Chakhesang jurisdiction. Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) authorized the mothers’ body to set up social check gate or stop any moving or stationary suspicious vehicle or person at any place deem fit or justified and carry out the “social-evil controlling measures” within the Chakhesang area during the 13th State general election period.

However, vehicles belonging to security forces, district administration & ECI election observers are exempted, stated CPO general secretary Mutsivoyi Kotso “The mothers groups have seized a number of liquor in the gates. The mothers sacrifice their energy, time and resources to save our people from the destruction of alcohol,” stated Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, Executive Secretary, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council. Among the clean election guidelines of the CCEM, it stated use of intoxicants such as alcohol shall be restricted and inflow of liquor shall be prohibited.
