Chakhesang Students Union (CSU) president Lavoto Chizo today said that change is inevitable and necessary. He said that without change, humanity would decay and die. The winds of change that have been blowing for thousands of years have transformed humanity in unbelievable ways.

“Our ancestors and elders of barely 70 years ago would find it difficult to even imagine the lives we lead today. Since science and technology, borne out of human ingenuity, have transformed our lives in almost every field of activity,” Chizo said in his presidential address on the second day of the 71st General Conference of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) coinciding with platinum jubilee of Pfutseromi Students’ Union (PSU) at Pfutseromi village.

Stating that we are also part of the global community, he said “We do not live in an island, isolated from the rest of the world. The world has shrunk so much that there are no islands left. The process of globalization has ensured that boundaries and barriers of any sort are artificial and meaningless,” he said.

He said that the prime objective of the world today is socio-economic progress, adding that improvement in the quality of life of the people is the paramount aim of every country and every government.

He said that the quality of life can improve only when certain basic requirements like peace and harmony in society, security of life and property, a reasonable income, food, shelter and clothing, education, healthcare and opportunities for employment and growth are provided. He called upon the gathering to come forward and work together for a healthy, happy and prosperous society.

The competitive world was becoming tougher and "we are at the receiving end in these opportunities due to our economic backwardness which has impeded our advancement in quality education. “Let us be relentless in our study, leaving no stone unturned in climbing up the ladder of education,” he added.

Bearing in mind the imperative need to preserve and promote traditions, the CSU resolved to mandatorily enforce wearing of Mhashekhwü (Chakhesang shawl) for all student community during CSU conference and respective union session. Chizo also said that the CSU will continue to encourage tree plantation drive every year in order to create awareness amongst the community.
