Daring 9th honoured for ‘exemplary courage’

Dimapur, August 10 (MExN): The 9th NAP Bn (IR) who had been deployed in Chhattisgarh from 2005 to 2007 have been awarded with the Antik Suraksha Seva Padak Medal by the Government of Indi, Ministry of Home Affairs Police Division (MHA) in recognition of their exemplary duty.  

The medal is awarded to police personnel who are deployed for counter insurgency duty in a specified area for two years.  

The 9th NAP Bn (IR) also known as “Daring Ninth” was deployed in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on July 4, 2005. During their stint from 2005 to 2007, the daring soldiers of the 9th NAP Bn (IR) exhibited “exemplary courage and bravery” and using their expertise in jungle warfare, did a commendable job in containing Naxals in Dantewada District of Barsoor, Injaram, Bheji, Bhairamgarh and Bijanpur, a press release from the Commandant C. James Kinghen informed. The unit also lost 20 of its gallant troops while combating the Naxals, it added.  

“The supreme sacrifices they have made have left imprints in the hearts of thousands. They are gone but not forgotten,” Kinghen stated.  

The Commandant further informed that the medals will be personally handed over to the officers/personnel who have been transferred to other units. Medals will also be handed over to the family members of the martyred soldiers and those personnel who have expired, he added.   A total of 999 medals have been awarded to the unit.
