A team of Dimapur Police and Paramilitary/Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) frisking vehicles during a joint patrol in Purana Bazaar on Sunday. A patrol team member informed The Morung Express that such checking were being done periodically at several locations between Chumoükedima and Dimapur, as well as within the city vicinity, since the announcement by Dimapur Police regarding joint patrol last week. On January 12, Dimapur Police informed that it would be conducting joint patrols, Motor Vehicle Check Posts (MVCPs) and also provide joint escorts to transport convoys along with paramilitary/CAPF to “instil greater public confidence and check illegal extortion.” The development came after Nagaland Governor RN Ravi directed the Nagaland DGP and Inspector General of the Assam Rifles on January 11 to take the stringent actions against anti-social elements indulging in extortion especially on highways, during a review meeting on status and progress of road construction under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), among others.
