Dimapur Police SIT cracks Ritika Mehta murder case

Files charge sheet against four persons, including two from GPRN/NSCN  

DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Dimapur Police investigating into the murder of Ritika Mehta, proprietor of the Apna Hotel has arrested four persons, including a woman in connection to the crime and has filed charges against them.  

A prominent businesswoman, late Ritika Mehta was shot dead after miscreants fired at her inside her establishment on December 14, 2015.  

A press statement from Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and PRO, Dimapur Police said the four accused, who were arrested on different occasions, include Motsuthung Ngullie, a resident of Boro Lingri and established to be ‘tatar’ of Lotha region, GPRN/NSCN; Thungkhomo Jungio, reportedly a ‘deputy kilonser’ under GPRN/NSCN, Tiachungba Ao, the stepbrother of the victim and one Thechano Ngullie.  

Dimapur Police said the building where the victim’s establishment was located was a subject of dispute following the sale of the property by the stepmother of the victim.  

Following the incident, the SIT was formed to investigate into the aspects related to the case and the perpetrators behind the crime. The SIT was able to gather necessary evidences against the accused persons in the form of physical, documentary and digital evidences. The investigation was also assisted by the Forensic reports in the form of Narco Analysis Test and Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature profiling (BEOSP) conducted upon two accused - Motsuthung Ngullie and Thungkhomo Jungio from the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Gandhinagar, the Dimapur Police press release said.  

According to the Police, Thungkhomo Jungio has been established as the main conspirator to the crime and was “in receipt of huge sum of money from the members of the family engaged in the dispute with the victim.” The police stated that, “He had received the money on various occasions with an assurance to have the victim evicted out of the property by any means.”  

The second accused, Motsuthung Ngullie, police said, was party in the conspiracy of the murder of the victim with incriminating evidences of his involvement in the stages of planning and reconnoiter found against him.  

The third accused, Tiachungba Ao, the stepbrother of the victim, has been charged with liabilities of the case for being party to the conspiracy ultimately leading to the death of the victim. He was found to be involved in all dealings and payments made in connection to the conspiracy and was in knowledge of the plan, the Police informed.  

The fourth accused, Thechano Ngullie has been charged with the liabilities of the case for being party to the conspiracy and facilitating the deal between the parties of the conspiracy.  

Dimapur Police also revealed that the SIT will be filing a supplementary charge sheet on a later date and is likely to fix charges against few more others. It also expressed confidence of a successful prosecution and delivery of Justice.
