DNC has no mandate, says DPON; refutes allegation

Dimapur, July 18 (MExN): Apropos the memorandum reportedly submitted by the “so called” Dimasa National Council to Union Home Minister which appeared in the media, the Dimasa Public Organization, Nagaland (DPON) has asserted that the organisation never knew about the existence of the Dimasa National Council and the demands put forth to the Government of India.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Amon Difoe, DPON stated, “It has also been confirmed that Dimasa National Council has been reportedly formed by a few individuals without having the mandate of the people as per report from Dimasa frontal organizations of Assam.”

It also refuted and strongly condemned the Council’s allegation of atrocities committed on the Dimasas of Nagaland by Naga rebels “which is nothing but a sinister design to create animosity between indigenous tribes.”

DPON further appealed to one and all to “avoid misunderstanding on the issue and maintain the age-old cordial relationship between tribes.”

According to media reports, Dimasa National Council served an ultimatum to the Centre on July 16 demanding return of Dimapur to the proposed Hirimbapur autonomous state. It had also alleged that the Naga groups were “committing atrocities in some of Dimasa’s former territory.”
