Flood waters affect power supply in Dmp

Morung Express News
Dimapur | July 19

The torrential downpour that lashed Dimapur cut off power supply to several localities today. 8 distribution transformers and the 33x11Kva Metha sub-station were affected by water-logging.

Metha substation was shutdown since early morning as according to a department official “control cables” were submerged in floodwaters. The shutdown cut off supply to the entire main town area and surrounding localities.

“Unless the water-logging subsides we cannot charge the lines,” said the official, while adding that water pumps have been put into service to drain out the water. “We cannot predict as of now. By evening we’ll try to resume supply but it depends on how soon the water is drained out.”

Four other transformers fed by the sub-station were also submerged. At Dhobinulla, two 500Kva transformers were partially submerged while another two 250Kva transformers met the same fate at the Westyard area.

Two transformers fed by the Burma Camp sub-station stationed at Ragailong colony and at the Burma Camp bazaar area were also shutdown temporarily as a result of water-logging. Three more at Kharalu Basti (500Kva), D colony (250Kva) and Netaji colony (250Kva) fed by the Super Market Sub-station were also shutdown. Supply from the five transformers was resumed during the day.
