Forest dept field staff attend training in Kiphire

Kiphire, March 2 (MExN): State Silviculture organized a training programme exclusively for field staff of Forest Department at the level of foresters and forest guards and JFMC members, sponsored by ICFRE, Dehradun, extended program of RFRI-Vigyan Kendra Jorhat from February 21 to 23 at Kiphire.

Scientists from RFRI Jorhat as resource persons deliberated on the easiest methodology of raising bamboo seedlings in nurseries. Dr. RK. Kalita, Scientist, ‘D’ RFRI, Jorhat presented on management of plantation, diseases, harvesting, preservation and product diversification and value addition  of various bamboos with PowerPoint and demonstration of the techniques. Use of GPS and its application in the survey, map plotting was deliberated and demonstrated by Supong IFS, CF NTC DFO Wokha; medicinal herbs of Nagaland, its use  and value addition was presented by Dr. TC Bhuyan, Scientist, RFRI Jorhat; biodiversity and wildlife conservation was deliberated by Hemant, IFS, Wild Warden Kiphire.  Altogether 65 of frontline staff, VCMs, JFMC members, SHGs participated in the training. The next phase of training would be exposure trip to Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, Assam.
