Government committed to an early solution to Naga issue, says Kiren Rijiju

‘Assures people of Nagaland to implement the solution as soon as it is reached’  

Dimapur, February 1 (MExN): With the Election Commission of India issuing the notification for the February 27 elections to the 60-member Nagaland Assembly on January 31, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju today appealed to the people of “Nagaland to participate in the democratic process of elections”.  

As per a PIB release, Rijiju, in his message said that “the Union Government is sensitive about the popular sentiment of Naga people and is committed to an early solution to their issue.”  

He also assured the “people of Nagaland that the Government will implement the solution as soon as it is reached,” it said.  

The MOS further appealed the political and civil society groups of Nagaland to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state and to withdraw their declaration to boycott the democratic process, it added.  

The Legislative Assembly election are scheduled be held on 27 February, 2018 to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Nagaland. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on 3 March 2018. On February 1, the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hoho and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) had called state-wide dawn to dusk shutdown to protest against the Commission going ahead with the elections.
