Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said the government has promised meritocracy to the people and it will take up measures and steps to ensure that government jobs are filled up through proper transparent procedures.

“Awarding of welfare schemes and selection of beneficiaries for various programmes will be merit based…the practice of recommendations notes for vacancies, contracts and supplies will be curtailed,” he said in his budget speech on the floor of the House.

It was informed that vacancies and formats for applications will be displayed on government websites.

Rio also assured that People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government will set up a Public Grievances Cell that can be reached by all citizens of the state in a smooth and easy manner.

Stating that the Cell will act as a bridge between the citizens and government agencies, he said citizens will be able to connect with the Cell through phone, social media, e-mails etc.

He further informed that the government has taken a decision that except for Governor, Chief Minister Deputy Chief Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker, no other persons would use pilots and escorts within Kohima and Dimapur.

“My government will also use modern information technology tools to improve governance and increase the adoption of e-governance at all levels,” Rio said, adding all departments will mandatorily have websites and portals where all information about the employees, the activities of the departments, ongoing projects etc will be displayed.
