With a vision to enhance the scenic values of our landscape and to popularize eco-tourism along with sustainable economic development of Mopungchuket village, the Mopungchuket Student’s Union (MALT) has initiated the ‘Greensight Project’, a five year scenic enhancement programme with the motto ‘Growing Dreams.’

The project was launched today by Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, Parliamentary Secretary, Geology and Mining, Nagaland at Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung, who appreciated the one of  kind project of the MALT and said that this kind of projects were needed not only to curb the problem of global warming but also in indirectly saving mother earth.

At the brief launching programme, the project convenor, Limalenden Longkumer highlighted the mission and the flagship programme of the project. “With a mission to grow superior ornamental trees along the roadsides, we will grow trees along the eleven kilometer Mopungchuket- Milak Road. The project aims to grow the famed Maple trees along 1.5 kilometer stretch, making it perhaps the only one of its kind in Nagaland,” said Limalenden.

The project will grow superior ornamental trees like the superior Japanese Cherry Blossom tree along 2.5 kilometer stretch and along 4 kilometers Oak trees  will be grown and the project will grow a roadside orchard with 100 different fruits, which will be a record in its own right.

The project will introduce exotic and propagate indigenous flowers and fruit-bearing trees. It also aims to initiate river clean-up projects in all the rivers under Mopungchuket territory and work towards the protection and preservation of biodiversity.

“This project is not a tree planting project but a tree growing project,” concluded the project convenor.
