HC to pronounce verdict on NLA floor test today

DIMAPUR, JULY 17 (MExN): The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court today reserved judgment on the petition filed by the Nagaland State Chief Minister, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu questioning the Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya’s directive to hold a floor test in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The court reserved its judgment till Tuesday afternoon. Sources informed that the Chief Minister’s counsel had earlier in the day sought to file an additional affidavit, to which the court ordered that the submission be made on Monday itself. Thereafter, the hearing proceeded and the court reserved its judgment for Tuesday at 2:00pm. An official source close to the CM meanwhile viewed that it is a “win win situation for the Chief Minister.” “The court can either stay the Governor’s directive or call for floor test. In case of the latter, whip will be issued. If MLAs defy the whip, they can be disqualified by the Speaker. If the Speaker does not issue disqualification order, the CM can always resort to the court to disqualify the MLAs who have defied the whip,” the source added.
