Heavy rain in the last two days caused flooding and mudslides in Manipur, cutting NH-2 in Kangpokpi besides submerging several houses in Jiribam on October 27. Widespread flood looms large in the valley areas of the state as most of the rivers are running above the danger marks, triggering fear of heavy flood at any time.

 

Heavy to medium downpour lashed the state in the last two days, making the rivers rise above danger marks.

 

Meanwhile, a mudslide triggered by the heavy downpour affected commuters along the Imphal-Dimapur section of NH-2 in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The mudslide occurred at a place between Kangpokpi district headquarters and Changoubung near T Khullen village last evening, an official source said. 

 

The heavy downpour triggered flood in Jiribam, Manipur’s district at the border with Assam where many houses at Khoisutok and Leingangpokpi areas were affected by the flood water, according to sources. With the river level rising, many low lying areas of the district have been inundated, reports said.

 

The heavy rainfall has also severely affected in Noney and Tamenglong districts at various places.

 

With almost all the rivers likes Barak, Irang, Makru, Echei and Leimatak are running above danger level, people of the two hill districts fear submerging of their paddy fields.

 

In the valley districts of the state, almost all the rivers, particularly, Imphal, Nambul and Kongba are running above danger levels. Rapid increase in the water level caused panicky of breach of banks.
