Hornbill Festival culminates, 1,12,604 visitors this year

Cultural extravaganza, unity dance, bonfire, fusion music, Christmas concert, release of Nagaland Vision Document 2030 marked the culmination of the ten-day long Hornbill Festival here at Kisama.  

The 17th edition of Hornbill Festival registered a total visitors of 1, 12,604 at Kisama with 1,646 foreign tourist, 14,962 domestic tourist and 95,996 local visitors.  

Chief Minister TR Zeliang in his closing remark thanked all the participants and the government departments for their contributions towards the success of this year’s Hornbill festival.  

He also thanked the various cultural troupes from the state as well as from outside the state. “Cultural performances always occupy the central stage and provides the main attraction during our Hornbill festival,” Zeliang said.  

He expressed his gratitude to the tourists and other visitors. Zeliang said the Kohima Municipal Council and the Youth Action for Rural Development did a wonderful job for regularly collecting wastes from Kisama and Kohima Night Bazaars. He thanked the visitors and the public for their cooperation in keeping the venue of the festival clean and plastic free.  

Later, Miss Nagaland 2016 Vilokali Zhimomi lit the bonfire followed by unity dance by various cultural troupes, which was also joined by visitors. Tetseo Sister’s, Abiogenesis and The Bangalore Conservatory (Handbell Ensemble) made special presentation.  

Christmas concert titled “Joy to the World” featuring Mengu Suokhrie, Wangyat Wangsu, The Bangalore Conservatory (Handbell Ensemble) and Hopong Naga also lit up the evening with festive melody. In the Naga Chef Season 4, Renphamo Ezung from Wokha district was crowned the best chef and walked away with prize money of Rs 3 lakhs.  

It may be recalled that the 16th edition of the Hornbill Festival in 2015 registered 2, 34, 113 visitors in Kisama.
