The indefinite total bandh in support of Tseminyu district demand spearheaded by Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) and Rengma Students' Union (RSU) started today within its jurisdiction as endorsed by Rengma Hoho and its frontal organisations.   The bandh was successful and no untoward incident has been reported, RSZ president Kenneth Kath told The Morung Express.

The bandh will continue, he said adding that they might be compelled to intensify the agitation.

It expressed regret for inconvenience caused to the travelers and at the same time requested other communities to understand the sentiment of Rengmas at this hour.

“The government should not deny and suppress the rights of Rengmas,” Kath said.

“Our Rengma demand is genuine and deserving and need no further justifications nor do the Government need any mechanism to measure and authenticate our demand, as all other districts created in the past were based on priority and on political necessity, and as such the Government should not hesitate to take the decision,” stated RSZ in its press statement on Tuesday.

The state government should not confuse the people by talking about criteria when each and every district in the past has been created on the basis of political exigency and even if criteria is to be cited, Tseminyu District fulfills every criteria over and above the required,” it stated.
