JCILPS intensifies ban on “non-locals”

Imphal, September 24 (NNN): Intensifying its ban on entry of “non-locals” (people from mainland India) into Manipur, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS)  detained 18 “non local” labourers in Imphal today. JCILPS has taken up the latest move in its effort to draw the attention of both the Central and Manipur governments regarding the “pressing need” of introducing Inner Line Permit (ILP) to protect interests of all indigenous people of the state against influx. Two days earlier, the Joint Committee had announced the ban besides boycotting visit by Union Ministers in the poll-bound state. Yesterday, 21 “migrant workers” were barred from entering Imphal by the Joint Committee. It pledged to continue the ban on “non-locals” and boycott against Union Ministers until the Manipur government tables an ILP related bill in the assembly.   A press meet was organized by the Joint Committee at its office after detaining the 18 “non-locals” who were pulled up by its volunteers in front of Imphal Hotel here. Its convenor BK Moirangcha said the 18 “non-local” labourers were hired by Simplex Company for a bridge construction in Tamenglong district. They reached Mao in Senapati district by a Blue Hill tourist bus and then arrived in Imphal in a local passenger bus. “Operation of the Blue Hill and local buses has been banned for one month for working against the Joint Committee,” Moirangcha announced during the press meet. He asked officials of the Simplex Company to settle the matter with JCILPS by tomorrow and warned of banning the company in the state in case it fails to give a clear response.
