Koijam Yima Memorial Golf Championship

Dimapur, January 9 (MExN): The Third Edition of the “Koijam Yima Memorial Golf Championship” was organised by Mantripukhri Ecological Park & Training Area, (MEPTA) under HQ IGAR(South) on January 8 and 9 last. A total of 46 participants took part in the tournament. Koijam Yima Memorial Golf Championship was started in the year 2008 in memory of late Koijam Yima, father of Bijoy Koijam, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board and president of the Manipur Olympics Association.
The tournament was played in two categories: 'Handicap 19 and above' and 'Handicap 18 and below' respectively. This included members of Mantripukhri Ecological Park and Training Area (MEPTA), Red Shield Ecological Park and Training Area (RSEPTA) and Manipur Golf Association (MGA). In the first category, Assistant Commandant Manbeer Singh emerged as the winner (Gross) and Seema Raina was the runner-Up (Gross).  In the second category Sharat Chandra was the winner (Gross) followed by Rabchandra as the runner-up (Gross). Rajeev Salam was the winner (Net) and Lt. Col. SK Jha was the runner-up (Net). Other prize winners included Col. HG Singh for the straightest drive, Col. Ravroop Singh for the longest drive, Brig. Surendra Mehta for the nearest to pin, LK Singh for the maximum pars and Hijam Ramesh for  the maximum number of Birdies. The tournament is aimed at promoting and developing golfing as a sport in Manipur.
