The renovation of Khouchiezie (Kohima Local Ground) by Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) has been received well by many. Parliamentary secretary of youth resources & sports, lotteries and music task force Khriehu Liezietsu formally dedicated the completion of the renovation work on January 23 last.

Speaking on the occasion, Liezietsu appreciated KVYO for carrying out the renovation works and urged upon them to continue to do yeoman service to the citizens of Kohima. He also called upon the KVYO to come forward and extend their co-operation and support to the government in overall development of the state capital.

KVYO president Medozhatuo Rutsa thanked all the donors who helped KVYO to carry out the renovation works effectively. The renovation covered VIP dais and traditional touch painting on rostrums. It also levelled the ground surface and painted the galleries, dug up the underground drainage and repaired the drainage system, put up a new electricity wiring on the ground floors rooms, re-fabricated both the gates.

Rutsa said that KVYO has decorated the wall on the rostrum with the picture of Angami traditional gate and the frontal top of the rostrum decorated in the style of the Angami traditional house.

He also made a request to the DC Kohima to lay down rules and regulations while allotting the ground to various organisations, fix a timing to play in morning and evening, make sure that the ground staff be present during practice time and also that KVYO be made a member of Kohima District Sports Council.

Also speaking on the occasion, Kohima deputy commissioner Rajesh Soudararajan lauded the KVYO for the works done in the local ground and assured to look into the request given by them.

Kohima Village Council chairman Medoselhou Keretsu was appreciative that “Kikie” was put on the rostrum. According to the Angamis, a person who hosts a grand feast for the entire village is awarded with a “Kikie”, which is a sign of the highest order of respect and glory. “A glorious “kikie” like the one we are seeing on the rostrum today has been a long felt need and I am grateful to the KVYO for their thoughtful deed,” he said.

Keretsu also challenged the other organizations to contribute to the society in a positive way.

He also complimented KABA youth in clearing up and painting all the pedestrians crossing bridges in Kohima town last year and termed it as a “noble gesture.” Also stating that Kohima smart city development is fast approaching, he requested all the authorities and organizations to cooperate with the government “so that our dream to transform Kohima town into a smart city will be realized.”
