Longleng district gets own museum to preserve, protect its cultural artifacts

LONGLENG, JANUARY 11 (MExN): Longleng Deputy Commissioner, M Shayung Phom today inaugurated the much needed Longleng District Museum, Nagaland funded by Ministry of Culture, Government of India and constructed by Ayolta Human Resource Society (AHRS), Orangkong, Longleng.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of art and cultural artifacts and preservation of one’s traditional roots through primary evidences. He expressed hope that this year will be an auspicious year and more projects will be created to reality in the district.
He further encouraged individuals, villages and Phom community to contribute and donate as much artifacts as they can to boost and bring developments in Longleng district museum.
He appreciated the development of the museum and encouraged the AHRS to tie up with art and culture department for more contributions and developments.
Presenting a brief report of the museum, Secretary of AHRS said the museum was constructed with a view to preserve and protect the rich cultural artifacts which is fading and vanishing due to the transition of the society from primitive living to modernity.
The construction work started in 2017 and completed in 2019 with funding from Ministry of Culture and matching share from AHRS Orangkong, Longleng, he said.
Advisor AHRS H Leisha Phom; Chairman of Orangkong Village Council, S Namnyei Phom; H Tenchem Phom, Vice President of Phom Peoples’ Council; and President All Phom Graduates Organisation, YB Angam Phom also delivered short speeches on the occasion. A folk song was also presented by Longau & group.
