Marings celebrate Lamlai festival at Khuninglung village

Newmai News Network Imphal | October 22 The Maring tribe’s pre-harvest festival ‘Lamlai’ culminated on Saturday, October 21. The three-day long festival is based on traditional schedule within the month of Mera (October-November).   Like the rest of the Maring community members, Khuninglung village in Chandel district of Manipur observed the last day of the festival on Saturday, organised by Khuninglung Village Authority.   Chandel Deputy Commissioner, Krishna Kumar attended the celebration as chief guest, social worker, W Menai Makunga as guest of honour, and Kn Thomas Makunga as president.   President of Maring Naga Baptist Association, Rev Morung, social worker Angkhulun Shilshi and Khudei Khunou village chairman Ks Angphun attended as special invitees.   During the festival, the villagers invoked God's blessing for bountiful harvest.   The festival is observed in three parts. The first day marks the ‘Lamdou Shim’ that deals with the maintenance of clean and healthy environment. The second day of the festival is called ‘Yuilam Waa,’ which is based on tradition of cleaning all water resources. The last day marks ‘Lamtang Yu,’ which is related to repair and maintenance of all communication routes leading to the village.   Deputy Commissioner, Krishna Kumar expressed that Lamlai festival is very important festival which brings clean and healthy lifestyle.   The officer then gave awareness on the importance of having Aadhaar card, bank account and sanitary toilet. The DC appealed to the people to have Aadhaar cards.   Further, Krishna Kumar urged the villagers to support the Swachh Bharat Mission.
