Mon women form higher institution to fight poverty

Mon, February 15 (MExN): The women Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) under Mon RD Block has formed the Block Level Federation (BLF) – a higher level institution for the women – at DRDA Resource Centre here on February 9.  

The first-ever team of office bearers elected for 2 years term were Esther Konyak as president, Rachel Konyak - vice president, Leijoi - general secretary, Ngapnon - assistant general secretary, P. Zemyon - finance secretary, and Pheiya - information secretary.  

During the training cum formation of the Block Level Federation, Wennyei Konyak, DRDA Project Director and District Mission Manager, said the women should take up the NRLM, a flagship government program, sincerely and actively.  

“Human mind is like a magnet, when one thinks positive and acts, a positive result is surely achieved,” he stated, according to a press release received here. Wennyei advised the women to pass down information or knowledge they get from trainings to the general populace.  

He reminded that Mon block having chosen as resource block of NSRLM in Mon district should produce successful qualities for other blocks to follow.  

In the training of building higher institutions of the poor, district resource persons were Hangsa Konyak, ADPM; Yatao Konyak, BPM; and Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator.  

Hangsa spoke on meaning and objectives of BLF, Yatao shared on roles and functions of a federation, while Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator spoke on financial institutions viable for rural people.  

The DMMU and BMMU staff besides 63 officials representing VLOs from all the 18 villages attended the training.
