Naga Students’ Union Bangalore celebrates Golden Jubilee

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Union Bangalore, celebrated its Golden Jubilee November 16 under the theme, “Building resilience beyond challenges” at the India Campus Crusade for Christ, Bangalore. 


Nuthipru Nienu, the President of the NSUB, greeted and acknowledged the presence of chief guest, guest of honor, special invitees, sponsors and all the members in the jubilee hall. He expressed that the NSUB has been a launchpad to express Naga identity and a refuge in times of distress and a platform to showcase Naga values and cultural heritage. He also expressed that Nagas have to recognize that peace and unity are costly affairs and can never be achieved unless Nagas agree to eliminate biased mandates and work for the common welfare of the people.


The celebration displayed a video recording “Journey This Far,” showcasing the events of the past 50 years of NSUB’s golden history. Bendangyanger Longkumer, Convener of the Golden Jubilee Planning Committee informed the audience of how the organization started in the year 1969 and its growth over the years.  


Rev. Zhabu Yimsung, pastor of the Naga Christian Fellowship, Bangalore offered a prayer and released the Golden Jubilee Souvenir and Memento, the first copy of which was gifted to the Chief Guest, M Bendangnukshi Longkumer, the former General Secretary of the NSUB, and other dignitaries. 


The chief guest in his speech recalled the early days and noted how the NSUB has matured and is a strong community now. 


Nise Meruno meanwhile enthralled the crowd with his song, “to God be the Glory.” This was followed by felicitating the Guests of Honour, Ninoto Awomi, President, Naga Students’ Federation; Hesho Kairhii Mao, Chief Engineer, Indian Telephone Industries Limited, the former presidents of the NSUB; Aran Chihui and Sunep Imsong, and the ENSUB President Pongkyüse Sangtam. 


The celebration continued with the second session with attractive display of cultural show, folk dance by the ENSUB, folk song by Angami Students’ Union Bangalore and thrilling atmosphere of “Musical Night” with local artists namely, Opang Sunep, Ruth Murry, Dzuphro Terri, Kuputo K Wosta and guest artists namely, Nise Meruno, Chonchon Varah, LC Sekhose and Moko Koza and Lisa Mary Swu, who entertained and enthralled the audience. Rev. Dr. K H Reihe, Pastor, Poumai Naga Baptist Church, Bangalore, said the closing prayer.
