NFR staff awarded for exceptional alertness during duty

Maligaon, November 30 (MExN): Four Railway staff from various divisions of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) who showed exceptional devotion and alertness, while performing their duties during the month of October 2019 were awarded at a function held at Maligaon on November 29.

 

The recipients of the award were Pranab Das, Track Maintainer/Rangapara and Dipak Ch Nath, Pointsman/Kendukona under Rangiya division; Mriganka Shekahr Saikia, Sr Section Engineer (P-Way) Naojan under Lumding division and Nandjee Kumar, Driver/Goods/Mariani under Tinsukia division.

 

Pranab Das, Track Maintainer under Rangiya division while performing duty as a gateman on October 30 noticed a herd of elephants crossing the railway track near the gate at railway between Rangapara – Bindukuri. The gateman promptly informed on duty station Master of Bindukuri Railway Station to control the train. Accordingly, lives of the elephants were saved due to his alertness.

 

Dipak Ch Nath, Pointsman under Rangiya division was engaged to watch the Brahmaputra Mail from off side on October 20. He noticed a brake binding in the rear SLR coach of the train while it was passing. He immediately showed red hand signal to the Guard of the train and on duty Station Master/Kendukona. The train was controlled at once and brake binding was removed.

 

Mriganka Shekhar Saikia, Sr Section Engineer (P-Way) under Lumding division was engaged at Major Bridge located at railway between Bokajan - Chungajan to monitor the increasing flood water level on October 27. He noticed the water level increased beyond the danger level and excessive scouring of the abutment. He immediately decided to suspend all the train running in that section with immediate effect. Due to his alertness, a probable mishap was averted.

 

Nandjee Kumar, Driver/Goods under Tinsukia division while performing duty in New Tinsukia - Rajendra Nagar Express on October 20, he noticed a herd of elephant crossing the railway track at railway track between Titabor – Mariani. He immediately applied emergency brake and controlled the train just 25 minutes before the elephant herd. Thus the lives of the elephant were saved.

 

In recognition of their meritorious service, each of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs 3000 only along with a certificate issued by the General Manager, NFR.
