DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 14 (MExN): As an institution, Dimapur based Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts offers training courses on beauty management and modelling. Now, the academy has expanded its services further by opening a salon and spa, wholly run by it. Christened ‘Mystique Salon & Spa’, it opened its services on Thursday, October 14 with Minister for Agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry doing the honour of cutting the ribbon.
Making a brief address at the inaugural Dr. Murry said that in the context of the upcoming 12th Five Year Plan (a plan which covers 2012 to 2017), the academy has an important role to play. Stating that the country’s economy is largely based on small-time businesses, the Union government will be putting more impetus on skill development.
Dwelling on the state government’s financial spending or rather burden, he said that the state is spending 60 percent of its funds to pay the salaries of its employees. On the other hand, as far as the 13th Finance Commission Award is concerned, the state governments are entitled, or rather, can spend only 30 percent of its revenue sources to pay off its employees. If this norm is put into force, it will put the state government in a tight spot even to the extent of cutting down on the number of employees. In such a scenario, either the state government has to increase its sources of revenue generation or look for other radical options, he said.
While keeping these two points in mind, he reminded that now is the opportune time for the trainees to take advantage of their training.
Further, he said that it is high time that Nagas change their attitude towards work and become more ‘money conscious’ i.e. understand the value of money. “We Nagas have some negative aspects which one has to throw away.”  In this context, he urged the academy to put emphasis on imparting managerial skills, aside from the other aspects of the training course.
Managing Director of NIAPA, Akuonuo Khezhie said of ‘Mystique’ that it was “started to give our people easy access to international quality products and services her within the state… while, it will give employment to some of the students who wants to work closer home, without compromising on their talents and their ability to learn and expand more.”
