NPRAAF serves 7-day deadline to RD dept to reveal details on utilization of MGNREGA funds

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): The Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) on Thursday gave a seven-day deadline to the Rural Development (RD) Department to reveal details of utilization of MGNREGA funds for material and labour component in district wise, block wise and village wise and provide the total amount in public domain.

Information & Publicity Cell, NPRAAF in a press release said there are widespread allegations on the misuse of funds sanctioned for implementation of MGNREGA in Nagaland during 2016-17 and 2017-18.   NPRAAF had also cautioned the department that refusal to provide the details in public domain may compel NPRAAF to approach appropriate authority to initiate CBI inquiry into the entire RD department.

Given the humongous amount involved and the RD department shying away from exhibiting transparency in the management of funds, NPRAAF said it is contemplating on taking up the issue of MGNREGA fund separately and approach the Centre for an inquiry.

In the event of any freezing of MGNREGA funds to Nagaland by the Government of India as consequence; the NPRAAF said it should not be held responsible.
