NSCN (IM) clarifies on ‘calendar’ issue

Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today said that in the history of Naga freedom struggle, nobody can take away the “place of Haipou Jadonang as the pioneer of Naga Freedom struggle” and it has no intention undermining “his place in Naga political struggle.”

“The fact that Nagalim Calendar 2020 published by MIP not having mentioned about Haipou Jadonang as Naga freedom pioneer does not in any manner intended to undermine his place in Naga political struggle,” said a press statement from Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), NSCN (IM).

“What is highlighted in the calendar does not reflect the details of Naga historical facts. It is just a brief account of the Indo-Naga political talks and the travail that brought the talks this far,” it said.

In the statement, the MIP further noted that the “Nagas are proud of him for having inspire the Nagas to uphold the political identity of the Naga people against the mighty British imperialist.”

“Jadonang’s sacrifice was a testimony before the world that the Naga people are ready to lay down their lives in defense of their historical and political rights,” it said.

“Certainly, MIP will do the needful in the next edition of Nagalim Calendar to make special mention of Haipou Jadonang,” it added.

The MIP press statement came after the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) under the banner of the Zeliangrong Baudi on December 1 accused the NSCN (IM) of distorting the “history of Naga political journey by ignoring Haipou Jadonang’s supreme sacrifice” in the “Nagalim Calendar 2020.”
