In protest against the inaction of the state government on its demands on the setting up of a Staff Selection Board (SSB) for the state, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) today staged 1st phase of democratic agitation.

NSF through a press communiqué informed that the agitation began today with overwhelming response from the students’ community and the general public of the state.

Students of various schools, colleges and universities wore black bands/badges along with the uniform of their respective institution in response to the call of the Federation to register their resentment against the state government to respond positively to their aspiration for promoting meritocracy in the state, stated NSF vice president Dieví Yano and general secretary Liremo R. Kikon.

The Federation reiterated that the first phase of the democratic agitation shall be carried forward for an indefinite period of time and if the state government continues to remain indifferent to this cause, the federation shall be compelled to take up the 2" phase of agitation, the nature of which shall be made known to the general public in due course of time.

Further, the NSF appealed to all the students and the general public to walk together “with us in this journey until the desired result is achieved.”

Earlier, the NSF media cell stated that rampant practices of back-door appointments and other undesirable practices have been adopted by those in the seat of power during the recruitment process to various government jobs.
“Meritocracy has been living its dark days in the state, counting very little of the efforts and sacrifices made by the students to secure a future for themselves and the society at large.  This situation needs to be remedied without further delay,” it stated.

The NSF reminded that it had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio on June 11 urging his government to set up a committee which will work out the modalities for setting-up of the SSB in the state within two months time.
