Kohima, February 24 (MExN): The District Intelligence Branch (DIB) personnel of DEF Kohima seized 210 kg of ganja from a vehicle intercepted between Kidima and Viswema in Kohima district on February 23.
A press release from PRO, Kohima Police informed that the DIB personnel were conducting “reckee” between Kidima and Vishema Village based on information that some illegal consignment were on the way to Kohima from Manipur when the vehicle carrying the ganja sped away ignoring the signal of the police to stop.
The Police chased the vehicle during which three warning shots from .38 service pistol were fired by DIB personnel, the release added. Subsequently, the vehicle (Mahindra Bolero - silver color) bearing registration number NL-03-2584, Engine No. – GA74M94462, Chassis No. – MA1PL2GAK72M56583 was intercepted from a bridge between Kidima and Viswema.
The vehicle along with the driver and consignment of contraband ganja were taken to Khuzama Police Station for further verification, the PRO said. The driver of the vehicle identified as Nipuni Athili (31) was accordingly taken into Police custody for further investigation.
In this connection, a regular case vide Khuzama P.S Case No. 008/16 U/S 20(B)(II)(C) NDPS ACT has been registered against Athili on charges of transporting and possessing contraband ganja.
